The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that, “the will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government”. Built on the foundation of equality, inclusion and participation, democracy gives the common people the right to participate in the decisions of the government either directly or through elected official representatives. It is a fundamental part of human rights, peace and sustainable development. SDG #16
