Discovery Boxes
The boxes are designed to increase children's awareness of other people's lives. They are made up of items from different world cultures relating to the various topics including food, water, clothing, technology, games, crafts, religion, etc.

Display Kits
Display kits are large laminated visual displays accompanied by a teachers' file containing background information and practical activities for the classroom.

Fiction
A small selection of children's fiction and picture books is available to teachers on such topics as peace, conflict resolution, water, refugees and other global issues.
Simulation Games
Simulation games are games which involve a real situation presented in a simplified way where participants have to observe rules, try to reach an objective and have a bit of fun for the purpose of achieving an empathic understanding of a particular issue. For example Survival and Hope(Refugees), Repression(Human Rights), Bafa Bafa(Cross Cultural) and Challenging Racism.
Journals
We subscribe to the following journals which focus on third world issues: New Internationalist, Focus, Guardian Weekly and Developments. These can be consulted at the centre.
Music
A small collection of tapes, CD's and music books is available on global issues.
Reference
One World Centre has the latest editions of the following important reference books on the developing world: The World Guide, The State of the World (UNICEF), The Human Development Report (UN Development Program), The State of the World's Children and The State of the World's Refugees.
Teachers Texts
The Teachers Collection consists of books on global education as well as many global topics. The emphasis is on student-centred, practical learning experiences with activities wherever possible.
Teaching Kits
Teaching kits consist of a book plus another resource, such as a set of photos or AV material.
Vertical File
The library maintains a selection of newspaper articles, pamphlets and brochures on a wide range of global issues. These can be consulted at the library.
Videos and DVDs
We now have more than 200 videos and DVDs on global issues. They can be borrowed for 3 weeks. Detailed abstracts are written with teachers and the Curriculum Framework in mind. Many videos are also suitable for development study and community group use.
